Cosmetic fillers and dermal fillers are two popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and other signs of ageing. They have different mechanisms of action and are used for different purposes.
The benefit of having this treatment done by dental professionals is that they have a thorough knowledge and understanding of facial anatomy and can perform this delicate work in a precise and safe manner.
Our practice uses cosmetic fillers, a treatment that has been used for over 20 years. It works by temporarily blocking the activity of targeted muscles. When administered into specific muscles, it prevents them from contracting, which helps to smooth out wrinkles and lines caused by repetitive facial expressions.
First, we recommend booking an initial consultation, where we will discuss your concerns at length. Once you return for treatment, we administer small amounts of the product into the skin. Areas on the face that can be treated include frown lines (vertical lines which form between the eyebrows) and crow’s feet (laughter lines around the eyes), which can also be used to lift eyebrows.
The treatment is quick and painless, usually lasting around 10-15 minutes and requiring no anaesthetic. Results will usually start to be seen in a few days, with 7-14 days for the full effects to be seen.
This is not a permanent treatment, so the effects will wear off over time. Therefore, the procedure can be repeated roughly every 3 months for effective results.
